A Provincial Perspective - News from Across Canada
By Amy Terrill on Nov 04, 2011
Checking in this week with some updates from their provinces are BC and Manitoba. Check it out!
Not surprisingly there's some fabulous music coming out of BC where competition was pretty tough for the recent PEAK Performance Project.
Music BC and 100.5 the PEAK recently announced the top 3 artists in the PEAK Performance Project!
The Boom Booms,
Current Swell, and
The Matinée will perform to a sold-out crowd at the Commodore Ballroom on November 17th, where over $225,000 in career development funds will be awarded. 4th place honours and $10,000 was awarded to
Hilary Grist, while Victoria band
Acres of Lions took home 5th place with $5000. You can now
download songs inspired by Vancouver from the PEAK Top 20 artists, recorded at PEAK bootcamp in Princeton, to commemorate the city's 125's birthday.
Manitoba Music is traveling East to Toronto with a star line-up of bands for a
showcase at Supermarket on November 22nd. A couple artists we've highlighted here before are on the bill: Polaris long-lister
Greg MacPherson and indie rock outfit
Les Jupes, as well as pop/rockers
The Details and singer/songwriter
Tom Keenan.
“We’re thrilled to be back in Toronto again this year, bringing another crop of stellar Manitoba talent,” says Sara Stasiuk, Manitoba Music’s executive director. “It’s a big year of great successes for Manitoba artists, in Canada and beyond. After showcases in Germany, New York City, and the Yukon, we’re excited to showcase this world-class lineup for our friends in the Toronto music industry and help these artists reach their next level of success”
The Toronto showcase is an initiative of Manitoba Music’s Market Development Program, which is funded by the Government of Canada and Province of Manitoba through the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement. Through events like these, Manitoba Music is able to increase the level of awareness and connectedness between our province’s music industry and the broader national and international industry, which is vital to the career advancement of Manitoba artists and industry professionals.
Sounds like a great show!
